Music is an essential part o f The wedding ceremony. It sets the mood and is used at different parts of the ceremony. Listed below are some of the components of ceremony music and a brief description of them
Prelude Music
Is the music played prior to the ceremony while guests are being seated. Usually I like to use Baroque and Classical music for this. Generally this music is bright and cheery sounding. There may be some slow movements included to add variety for the listener. This section may be about 20 to 30 minutes before the ceremony begins.
Processional
This is the section where the immediate family members are seated . Also, the bridesmaids and flower girl and ring bearer come forward.
Bride Entrance
This is when the bride comes up.The guests usually stand at this point.
For this part we usually pick something at a walking tempo and something regal sounding. There are usually separate pieces for the bridal party and the bride. The bride typically has her own tune. There is often a slight pause before her tune begins
Interlude
Interlude songs are often used during the ceremony to signify a special moment for the couple. This would be a type of song to play during lighting of a unity candle or pouring of sand or remembering loved ones. This is a place where a slower, meditative type piece might be used.
Recessional
This is the piece played as the couple are now married and are exiting the ceremony. For this a bright, happy sounding piece is used.
Postlude
This is played at the conclusion of the ceremony as guests exit. We continue with something happy and upbeat.
